Nutritionist

Unlike dietitians, the term "nutritionist" is very vague and not protected by law in the US. Although the situation varies from state to state, just about anybody can call themselves a nutritionist, regardless of their education, training or experience.

While a dietitian is able to diagnose eating disorders, diseases and work with patients for the management of health problems, nutritionists are not. However, nutritionists can teach clients about general nutrition, and offer nutritional supervision. With training, they can also earn the certified nutrition specialist (CNS) which is a regulated title.
