2016: Bourdain dines with then-President Barack Obama in Vietnam for his hit show "Parts Unknown"

The Layover only lasted 20 episodes, but its ending was followed by Bourdain's move to CNN for his new venture Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. This became one of Bourdain's best works and led him to such notoriety that the White House reached out to him in 2016, asking if he'd dine with Barack Obama in Vietnam for an episode of Parts Unknown. He accepted, and they dined on bun cha at a non-descript restaurant in Hanoi together. Bourdain captioned the above photo: "The President's chopstick skills are on point." Obama reacted to Bourdain's death on Twitter with a photo of them from that day and a brief homage: "'Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer.' This is how I’ll remember Tony. He taught us about food — but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together. To make us a little less afraid of the unknown. We’ll miss him.
