The Spoon - at least 1000 BCE
Dating back to at least 1000 BCE, the spoon is the second oldest utensil. The oldest spoons found were actually Egyptian ceremonial spoons. The handles were carved to depict the ceremony events. About 200 years later, the spoon became a commonplace eating utensil among the wealthy Greeks and Romans. Then, by 1200 CE, the spoon had traveled across Europe. It even held an honorable role in the coronation of English kings, like Edward I.
