Modern Fork

France adopted the fork when Catherine de Medici married king Henry II in 1547 CE and brought the trend to the higher classes. Later, in the 18th century, dining etiquette became of interest to people, and the fork became popular. Its early model only had two tines but the Germans designed a new model in the 1700s with four curved tines. This gave it the multi-function of spearing and scooping and is what we are familiar with today.
