What They Eat...

Meats such as pork and fish makes up only 30% of the Tsimane diet. Plants with complex carbohydrates, such as bananas, corn and rice are their main sources of energy.  Other foods include manioc root, as well as different nuts and fruits. This leads to the tribe consuming less amounts of certain types of foods, which benefits their arteries: low quantities of meat, low levels of simple carbohydrates (such as refined sugars) and no trans fats which are commonly found in processed foods.
