Norma G's was a relative newcomer in the food truck world, having opened in 2015 and offering authentic Caribbean cuisine with Trinidadian influence passed down from mother to son. Now it's a welcoming, family-friendly establishment and also the first sit-down restaurant to open in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood of Detroit in 30 years. The area has been somewhat plagued by economic and racial divides, but at Norma G's, you'll find people from all walks of life, enjoying hearty curried meats, jerk chicken or the classic Trinidadian street food Doubles (sauteed seasoned chickpeas served between house-made fried dough).
