King of Falafel & Shawarma - Astoria, New York

Those who've been Astoria residents since the early 2000's probably know Fares or "Freddy" Zeideia. And if they know him, they know one of NYC's best falafel-makers. In 2002, King of Falafel & Shawarma started as a small food cart at the intersection of Broadway and 30th. A simple sign read "Halal Meats," and Zeideia's little stand became a local fixture, while he became the neighborhood's beloved food vendor, learning people's names and handing out free falafels when lines got long. Today, he's got a cart, a food truck and a fast-casual eatery, all famous for his oval-shaped falafels and hearty Middle Eastern fare.
