Vegetables are always going to be your ally when it comes to losing weight. Green varieties, such as broccoli, green beans, peas and spinach have a high-fiber content, which makes them a filling and nutritious food choice. But some of them, particularly the cruciferous kind, are more difficult to digest when eaten raw and can cause stomach bloating. Instead, cook them slightly before serving. Boiling, steaming or a quick saute in olive oil will do the trick. The same thing goes with legumes, such as beans and lentils—consume these in moderation because they contain cellulose, which causes intestinal gas.
