For a beer tasting to be successful, you should take the time to serve the beer properly. Start by delicately opening the bottle without shaking it to avoid ending up with too much foam.
Hold your tasting glass by the foot in order to avoid warming the beer with the heat from your hands. Pour slowly and carefully, and little by little lift the bottle further away from the glass - doing this will create just the right amount of foam. Incline the glass to finish pouring and control the height of the foam. Fill the glass up only halfway in order to still have space to swivel the beer, so that you can smell it correctly.
