The Golden Lamb is one of the oldest institutions on this list, having served 12 sitting presidents from John Quincy Adams through George W. Bush. Founded in 1803, it is both a restaurant and hotel and was named after the image of a golden lamb featured on the sign outside (not everyone could read back then, so symbols were often used).
