Warning Signs that Tell You When Your Food Has Gone Bad

Canned foods might appear to last forever (from the outside anyway), but don't be fooled. The more time passes, the more the quality changes on the inside of those cans. First of all, you need to examine the physical condition of the can. Is it dented, rusty in color, or have a bulging lid? All of these are signs that the interior contents have been compromised.  Particularly, a bulging lid may indicate the presence of botulinum, a dangerous bacteria that can be fatal if you become poisoned with it. When the bacteria builds up in canned food, this releases gases that create pressure in the can. Likewise, when opening canned food, if food spurts out or you hear a slight hissing noise, this means pressure has built up, and it may be due to botulinum. You should also be wary of all other signs of spoiled food, including mold underneath the lid, sliminess, an off smell or foam.

METHOD

  1. Lightly sautée the peanuts until golden.
  2. Take the carrots and cut into thin slices.
  3. Peel the mango and slice into thin strips.
  4. Squeeze the juice from 2 limes into a bowl, and add olive oil, soy sauce, minced onion, salt and pepper.
  5. In a bowl, toss together the mango, carrot, rocket, and lime-soy dressing.
  6. Enjoy!
