What not to store in the freezer

As is the case with the refrigerator, some foods simply don’t freeze well because of their composition and vulnerability to changes in taste and texture. Here are some foods you should avoid freezing.

  • fresh soft cheeses and yogurt
  • milk
  • fruits and vegetables that are very rich in water such as watermelons, cucumbers, oranges, melons, salad greens and tomatoes
  • raw potatoes (cooked is OK)
  • raw eggs in their shells
  • ketchup and mayonnaise
  • cooked pasta
  • avocadoes
  • beer, soda, wine and champagne
  • green peppers
  • celery
  • spices
  • rice (unless it’s in a prepared dish)
