Mint Chutney - India
Chutneys are a staple condiment in South Asian cuisines, and they come in a practically infinite variety of sweet and savory flavors. They can be made with fruits, vegetables and herbs as a base with plenty of spices and aromatic additions to up their complexity. Not only do they vary in taste but also in texture: they can be relish-like, creamy, jam-like, sticky, crumbly, curd-like, runny, etc. One chutney that is especially popular in Indian cooking is refreshing mint chutney, also known as pudina chutney, which goes well with fried Indian snacks, naan, tandoori dishes, meats, sandwiches and more.
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch fresh cilantro, thick stems removed
- 2 bunches fresh mint, leaves only
- 1-2 serrano peppers, deseeded and chopped
- 1 onion, peeled and chopped
- 1 tsp ginger, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions:
- To a blender or food processor, add all the ingredients. Blend on high until completely smooth.
- Adjust seasoning to taste and serve chilled or at room temperature.
