Collard greens and black-eyed peas - US
Tradition has it that the more greens you eat, the luckier you will be. (If nothing else, you'll be a lot healthier!) Collard greens are especially popular among Southerners in the US, as they bear a strong resemblance to money and therefore symbolize prosperity.
Black-eyed peas are another popular Southern food eaten for good luck due to their round shape, which also resembles coins and money. It's believed that eating them can help ensure you have a successful year of finances. They're often enjoyed for New Year's, served in the Southern dish, known as "hoppin' John" with peas and rice, chopped onions and bacon.
Better yet, if you eat black-eyed peas with collard greens, you might be able to double your chances of good fortune!
