Nopalito - San Francisco, CA

Nopalito is the Mexican offshoot of San Francisco's locavore-based Nopa, where local, organic and sustainable ingredients make up the dishes on its moderately priced menu. It's not the place to go when you're looking for greasy food after a late night out, but rather a nice dinner date, family meal or casual outing with friends. In addition to their famous crispy, juicy carnitas, don't hesitate to order the totopos con chile (chips and salsa topped with cotija cheese, cream and other toppings) and the empanadas with grass-fed beef. Although the owners had to close their second location in June 2022, they subsequently opened a new take-out window in the Mission on 18th street, where you can order their tacos, carnitas, rice bowls and more.

Get this: Empanada con deshebrada des res—fried masa pastry with grass-fed beef, tomato, jalapeño, cabbage, queso fresco and salsa frita de guajillo.

These quick and easy chicken quesadillas are the perfect, last-minute family dinner!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup of tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup of chives, chopped
  • 1 tsp. of Mexican spice mix
  • 4 Tortillas
  • Cheddar
  • Salt, to taste

METHOD:

  1. Put shredded chicken breast, tomato sauce, chives, and mexican spice mix in a bowl and mix together.
  2. Lay out the tortillas. Place a slice of cheddar in the center, and cover with the chicken mix.
  3. Fold up tortillas, and heat in a frying pan until golden.
  4. Enjoy!
