Fill at least 1/2 your plate with fruits and vegetables

One way to easily lower your calorie intake at meals is to fill up half of your plate with fruits and vegetables. According to Harvard's School of Public Health, this is the ideal proportion, with the other half of your plate evenly divided between whole grains and a healthy protein. It's a good rule of thumb, particularly because it cuts down your consumption of other calorie-dense foods, yet still contains belly-filling fiber to keep you satisfied. You can also enjoy larger quantities of vegetables relatively guilt-free, as long as you keep the cooking methods healthy (ie. steaming, sautéed in healthy oils, roasted, etc.).
