Damper Bread - Australia
Australians are more well-known for their love of barbecue, but have you ever heard of their traditional camp bread known as damper? First made popular in the country by early European settlers, it's a wheat-based soda bread made from flour, salt, water and butter and traditionally cooked over the hot coals of a campfire. Modern recipes also show you how to cook it in the oven or a camp oven, and sometimes milk or sugar is added for extra flavor. Its crumbly, dense texture makes it a great side for sopping up sauce or dunking in soups and stews. Of course, it's also delicious for breakfast with jam, butter or vegemite, if you're into it.
