Fondue - Switzerland
It doesn't get much better than crusty bread dipped in a pot of melted cheese, does it? Fondue originated in Switzerland, and it's an especially popular après-ski meal in the Swiss and French alps. Made with multiple rich melted cheeses, garlic, wine and seasonings, it's a dish well-suited to groups in a convivial atmosphere. Besides bread, fondue is frequently served with pickled gherkins and pearl onions to cut through the richness, as well as boiled potatoes and cured meats to round out the meal. As for what to drink, legend has it that you should only pair fondue with cold white wine, hot tea or kirsch—or risk experiencing horrible indigestion.
