Manti - Turkey

Considered to be one of the most popular and iconic dishes of Turkish cuisine, manti are delicious tiny dumplings filled with spiced ground meat and onion and boiled like pasta. Topped with a creamy garlic yogurt sauce, olive oil and chili flakes, they can be served as an appetizer, side or main. It's a beloved dish throughout Turkey and other parts of the Middle East and Central Asia, and although preparing them does require patience and time, all that effort is forgotten at first bite.

Where to eat: Open since 1969, Sayla Manti in Istanbul is a no-fail option for traditional Turkish manti. Don't expect anything fancy—it's all about the food here in no-frills surroundings.
