Not adding the ingredients in the correct order

Order matters, too, when it comes to how you incorporate the ingredients into your cookie dough. If you add all the ingredients to the bowl at once (wet + dry), you risk overmixing the dough. Start by thoroughly creaming the butter and sugar, then add the remaining wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Separate the dry ingredients into three portions, and add them progressively, mixing just until the flour is fully incorporated with each addition.
