Regular bacon will quickly take a back seat when Mom is presented with this candied variation of a breakfast staple. Striking the perfect balance between sweet and savory, candied bacon can be enjoyed on its own or paired with other brunch favorites like pancakes or eggs!
Ingredients (for 12 pieces):
12 slices of bacon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
Lay the bacon slices in a single layer on the lined baking sheet.
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, and cayenne pepper (if desired) until well combined.
Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly over each bacon slice, pressing it down gently to adhere.
Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the bacon slices, pressing them down lightly to help them stick to the sugar mixture.
Bake for 15-20 min. or until the bacon is crispy and caramelized, and the brown sugar has melted and formed a glaze.
Remove the candied bacon from the oven and let it cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes.
Once cooled slightly, transfer the candied bacon to a wire rack to cool completely and allow the glaze to set. Serve at room temperature, and enjoy!
