Ingredients (serves 6):

  • 1 lb. ziti pasta
  • 4 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook until al dente, about 8-10 min. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
  4. In a large skillet, combine the cooked pasta, marinara sauce, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Stir until the pasta is well coated.
  5. Spread half of the pasta mixture in the bottom of a large baking dish. Layer the ricotta mixture on top, then add the remaining pasta. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  6. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 min. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 min. or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired, and serve warm.
