Japanese fun: Bento bowl

Try your hand at homemade bento bowls—everyone will be eyeing your creative lunch at work! It's a practical option that covers all your nutritional bases: meat, rice, cheese and vegetables (you can have fruit for dessert). For the animated onigiri (rice balls), wash 1 1/4 cups Japanese sushi rice several times, then cook them in vinegared water. Wet your hands, grab a bit of cooked rice, and add a piece of seared meat to the center. To make them into funny characters, cut a sheet of seaweed into various shapes and fix them onto the rice with vinegar. Serve with a few more meat pieces, sugar snap peas, carrots and sliced cheese.
