Think balance and variety

We've all been down the fast food road, but just one meal can be hiding more than half a day's worth of calories. Packing your own lunch can remedy this problem, as long as you prepare a balanced meal. You should include 1 baseball-sized fruit, 1 to 1 1/2 cups vegetables, 1/2 cup grains, 1 1/2 ounces low-fat cheese or 1 cup low-fat yogurt, and a palm-sized portion of meat, fish or poultry. You can of course substitute vegetarian options (tofu, beans, lentils, quinoa, etc.).
