BBQ faves you can make in your slow cooker all year long

Baked beans

Baked beans are a quintessential BBQ side, but don't resort to generic canned varieties when you can whip up a mouthwatering batch in your slow cooker instead.

Pour 4 cans of drained, cooked Great Northern beans into your slow cooker.

In a skillet, fry up 8 ounces of bacon strips until just tender. Drain, then chop and add to the crock pot. Add 2 cups diced onions to the same skillet, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, until starting to soften. Add 1 tablespoon minced garlic, and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the onions and garlic to the slow cooker.

In a mixing bowl, stir together 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/3 cup molasses, 1 tablespoon dry mustard, 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Pour into the slow cooker. Then pour in 2 1/2 cups water. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Add 2 tablespoons maple syrup and 2 to 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
