13. Ignoring portion control

Proper portion control is something we all struggle with, but it's key to staying in shape. You can spend hours in the gym, but if you're not taking in fewer calories than you burn, all that hard work goes unrewarded. A good rule of thumb is to use your hands for measuring out protein, carbs, veggies and fats. For women, correct serving sizes are as follows: 1 palm-sized portion of protein, 1 fistful of veggies, 1 cupped hand's worth of carbs and 1 thumb-sized amount of fat. For men, double the amounts. This is obviously variable depending on one's workout regimen and body type, but consider them pretty accurate estimates.
