No Drafts

It's a good idea to get in the habit of periodically checking all your windows and doors to make sure they're sealed well and aren't letting in any drafts. They should all be equipped with gaskets, the rubbery lining with the sole purpose of doing just that.

Here's a trick: light a lighter and hold the flame near the window lining. If the flame remains still, the window is fine; but if the flame flickers or moves, there's a draft coming through!

If that's the case, replacing the gasket won't be too difficult or expensive, and it will make a huge difference when your electricity bill shows up next month.
