Sauce on the Side
When in doubt, get the sauce on the side. Many menu items come with special sauces, and in general, you should stay away from any that have "sweet" or "honey" in the name. If you're not sure about the amount of carbs in a sauce, ask for it on the side so that you can control how much of it is on your food. Most major restaurant chains have their nutritional information on their website, so make sure you check it. As a guideline, barbecue sauce and ketchup have too many carbs, but mayonnaise and other creamy sauces should be OK—just watch out for added sugar.
