Batters

Fried foods and beer already go well together, so why not physically combine the two? Beer-battered foods tend to brown easier and end up with an airier texture, thanks to the carbonation. Try adding an ale or lager to your batter recipe for fried onion rings and fried shrimp, or go the old-fashioned route with beer-battered fish and chips.

Here's a quick recipe: combine 3/4 cup flour and 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper in a mixing bowl. Slowly add 1 bottle of beer, whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth. Coat the food in the batter and let the excess drip off. Fry for 2 minutes or until golden brown.
