Warning Signs that Tell You When Your Food Has Gone Bad

Cheese

Cheese is one of the hardest foods to evaluate for spoilage because some of them actually get better with time. It's best to keep in mind that fresh, soft cheeses, such as mozzarella, camembert, cream cheese and feta will go much quicker, due to their moisture content. Hard cheeses, on the other hand, including parmesan, cheddar and swiss cheese, last a lot longer. Even if you see some mold growing on the outside, you can easily scrape those bits off and still safely consume what's left. It's particularly hard to judge by smell, seeing as there are plenty of smelly cheeses out there that are perfectly fine to eat. The best way to gauge this is whether or not your cheese smells and tastes significantly different from when you first opened it.
