There's an urban legend out there that says adding a whole potato to over-salted soup will absorb all the extra salt. Wrong!
The easiest way is to add some milk or cream to your soup to dilute it. Another option is to add mashed potatoes or mashed chestnuts, which will also absorb the salt. Your final option is to make another pot of soup and mix it in with the over-salted one, but we know that takes a lot longer than 5 minutes!
