Butter

Most butter won't last long enough in a household to go bad, but in the event that it does, here's what to watch for: discoloration, sour taste or smell. Typically, butter lasts for up to 4 months in the fridge. If you prefer storing it at room temperature, make sure you use a ceramic butter crock to keep it shielded from light, which will make it go rancid faster. Also, keep it in a cool place away from the heat of any cooking equipment.
