Corn tortillas - Mexico
What would the world be without Mexican tortillas? Their pliable, firm and chewy texture makes them the ideal recipients for every variety of delicious grilled or shredded meats, vegetables and seafood. Authentic Mexican tortillas are made from hominy, water and salt. Rolled out or pressed into round, flat discs, they're cooked on a piping hot iron griddle known as a comal, but they can also be cooked in a nonstick skillet or on the grill.
Tortillas can range in size, with a diameter from 6 to 30 cm or larger, and their size is often determined by the dish they'll be used for (tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, etc.). When served warm, they're equally delish as an accompaniment to cozy stews, chilis, soups or grilled meats. And of course, they can be fried to make crispy tortilla chips!
