Pain perdu is French for "lost bread," but you'll be glad you found this recipe for Father's Day! Try switching up your usual sandwich bread with crusty baguette slices for a more hearty texture.
To make, mix together 1 cup milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Dip the baguette slices in the mixture and let soak for a few minutes. Beat 1 egg with 2 tablespoons sugar. Meanwhile, heat 1 tablespoon butter in a pan. Take baguette slices from milk and dip into the egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides. Fry in the butter on both sides until golden brown. Top with powdered sugar and whatever other syrups, fruit jams or nuts that Dad loves!
