Grilled steak and homemade BBQ sauce
Grilled steak is a no-fail Father's Day dish, and by making the BBQ sauce yourself, the extra effort will go a long way! Pick a higher quality meat, such as filet mignon, and sear it up nicely on the grill. Then slather it with your homemade BBQ sauce, and garnish with fresh dill.
To make the BBQ sauce, melt butter on medium heat in a saucepan. Add 1 small onion, finely chopped and saute until tender. Add 3 minced garlic cloves and cook until fragrant (30 seconds). Then add 2 cups ketchup, 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup molasses, 2 tablespoons mustard, 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper and 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper. Stir until completely combined, then bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, lower the heat and simmer until the sauce thickens, stirring continuously.
Pour the sauce into a blender, and blend until smooth. Let cool and brush on steak when ready!
