No amount of preparation will save your cheeseburger if you are cooking on dirty grill! Be sure to clean your grill thoroughly (a raw onion works very well), and preheat it to achieve a consistent, stable heat. If possible, set your grill up with two heat zones- high and low, so you can cook the burgers first on a high, searing heat to brown the outsides and seal in the moisture, then transfer them to a lower heat for the duration. Don't have a grill? A stove and a heavy bottomed, pre-heated pan will do just as well.
