This recipe for boozy Christmas fruitcake is a great starting point for incorporating alcohol into your fruitcakes. The dried fruits get soaked in brandy overnight, and once baked, the cake is brushed with more brandy before being covered in a cheesecloth. This combined with the high sugar content of fruitcake will allow you to keep it "fresh" for a whole month before serving. You can likewise let it sit like this for a while, then freeze it for later if desired.
