Tannins

Tannins exist naturally in grapes and can be a great source of antioxidants, even in their fermented wine form. However, for a small percentage of us, the tannins in wine (specifically red wine) can  be a source of headaches.

Test this by drinking other, non-alcoholic sources of highly concentrated doses of tannins. Strong coffee or black tea are great options. If these too give you a headache, you can be pretty sure that tannis are why.

If so, red wines are your enemy, so avoid them and you should be able to enjoy your vino headache-free.
