Tomato sauce is the perfect topping for a steaming bowl of spaghetti. Not to mention that it’s just as easy to make at home as it is to crack open a jar of the readymade stuff! To start, brown an onion and some garlic in a bit of olive oil. Add a few chopped tomatoes, a teaspoon of sugar and whatever spices or herbs you like. Season with salt and pepper and let simmer for 10 minutes on low heat. Then cover with a lid and let cook for 1 hour at least. Feel free to blend the sauce if you prefer a smooth consistency.
When summer rolls around and you find yourself facing an abundance of delicious fresh tomatoes, make huge batches of this sauce to freeze for winter!
