Big Star - Chicago, IL

A self-proclaimed "late-night honky tonk in the heart of Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood," Big Star takes its tacos very seriously. The restaurant is located in a former gas station, where country vibes meet rock 'n' roll, and bourbon is a house specialty. Although unconventional, the concept works, and the tacos al pastor made with marinated, spit-roasted pork shoulder are simply divine. It also offers one of the most coveted patios in the neighborhood, but if you're heading to a ball game, try Big Star's second location, right across from Wrigley Field.

Get this: Al pastor tacos with marinated pork shoulder, grilled pineapple, grilled onion and cilantro; the queso fundido is a big hit, too.

These quick and easy chicken quesadillas are the perfect, last-minute family dinner!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup of tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup of chives, chopped
  • 1 tsp. of Mexican spice mix
  • 4 Tortillas
  • Cheddar
  • Salt, to taste

METHOD:

  1. Put shredded chicken breast, tomato sauce, chives, and mexican spice mix in a bowl and mix together.
  2. Lay out the tortillas. Place a slice of cheddar in the center, and cover with the chicken mix.
  3. Fold up tortillas, and heat in a frying pan until golden.
  4. Enjoy!
