A Taste of Turkey: The Country's Most Delicious Dishes

This Turkish semolina cake with melt in your mouth. Best served with Turkish coffee. Yum!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups semolina (coarse)
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup yogurt
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 cup sugar

For the syrup:

  • 2 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 lemon (juiced)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 390°F.
  2. Lightly grease a round baking pan (11-inch).
  3. In a bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until foamy.  Add the yogurt and vegetable oil, and whisk.
  4. Add the semolina, flour, and baking powder to the egg mixture. Continue to mix before pouring into the baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown.
  5. For the syrup, in a small saucepan add 2 1/2 cups of water and the juice of 1/2 lemon. Bring to a boil over medium-heat. Simmer on low heat for 5 mins. Remove from heat, and allow the syrup to cool.
  6. Drizzle lukewarm syrup over cake and allow to infuse.
  7. Enjoy!

  • 1 onion
  • 5 - 6 thick rashers bacon
  • 1/2 lb sausage meat
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 2 cloves garlic, diced
  • 2 bell peppers, diced
  • Salt
  • 1 cabbage head


Method

  1. Fry the bacon in a skillet, then add onion, and meat.
  2. Add tomato paste, bell peppers, garlic and salt, and simmer till cooked through
  3. Boil 1 whole cabbage head in salted water till tender
  4. Spoon mixture into individual cabbage leaves, and fold carefully to form little rolls
  5. Serve with any remaining mixture
  6. Enjoy!
