What is sabrage and how do I do it?

Sabrage is the art of opening a Champagne bottle with a saber or sword. Because of the pressure inside the Champagne bottle, the cork and the glass 'collar' at the top of the bottle neck fly off the bottle together as the blade of the saber is slid up the bottle and hits the lip. So it's important that no one is standing in front of you when you try this! With the correct tools, namely a Champagne saber, you can absolutely try this at home. You can read more about sabrage technique here.
