Phaal is actually a British Asian Indian curry dish that originates from Birmingham, UK. It's got a pretty violent spice factor, as it is made with a ton of standard chili peppers. And at Brick Lane Curry House in Manhattan, the chefs incorporate the Bhut Naga Jolokia chili (also known as ghost pepper), which is used to fabricate tear gas. They actually wear gas masks when cooking up the dish, which is described on the menu as "an excruciatingly hot curry, more pain and sweat than flavor." For those brave souls who finish the curry, they get a free beer and a certificate of honor. Others have been sent to the hospital. Not sure it's worth the risk...
